Eric grew up in the Amalemba area of Lurambi, Kakamega County, after his family moved there from Central Kenya, where they lived as part of a minority community in Western Kenya.
He is the son of Justin Njeru, a native of Embu County who established himself as a successful businessman, running a dairy farm, owning matatus, and investing in real estate, and Perpetual Muthoni, who worked as a nurse at the Kakamega Provincial General Hospital.
During the 2007/2008 post-election violence, his family’s home and a rental property were razed to the ground due to the ethnic tensions of that period, an experience that shaped his commitment to the rule of law and justice.
