National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei has urged Kenyans to be patient despite the prevailing tough economic times.
Moreover, the Woman Representative noted that it will take at least one year for Kenyans to feel the impact of the new administration’s efforts to lower the high cost of living as well as correcting underlying economic shortfalls.
“We have to tighten our belts; it is going to be a difficult time probably for the next 100 days to 12 months. Kenyans will begin to see the fruits of some of the decisions in a year’s time,” Shollei noted during an interview on KTN.
According to the legislator, the economic pain will ease in a phased manner.
“We must preach to Kenyans to be patient. The pain is not going to go away immediately.” She noted.
Furthermore, Gladys Shollei defended President Ruto’s ‘No food subsidy’ policy, which was announced recently by the head of state as he revealed that his administration will focus on fertilizer subsidies to improve agricultural production.
“We are facing farming challenges, the price of unga is still high, but the long-term decision is to say ‘let’s subsidize fertilizer, increase the production then the price will naturally come down. It’s a new move to impact the livelihoods of people and the impact is not going to be instant,” Shollei stated.
Nonetheless, Shollei’s sentiments were echoed by Belgut MP Nelson Koech who stated that Kenya Kwanza Government’s performance will be felt after the Cabinet is fully constituted.
According to the Uain Gishu Woman Representative, the move by President William Ruto to subsidize cost of fertilizer is meant to positively impact Kenyans.

Nevertheless, President William Ruto in his efforts to address the high cost of living in the country directed that 1.4 million bags of fertilizer be availed to farmers at a subsidized price of Sh3,500 per 50kg bag down from the current price of Sh6,500 per 50 kg bag.
