Kenya’s Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, has been elected to the Interpol executive committee during the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly held in Marrakech, Morocco.
Amin was elected as Africa’s delegate to the INTERPOL Executive Committee in the Assembly, where Lucas Philippe of France was also elected President of INTERPOL for a four-year term.
At the same time, Wang Yong of China was elected Vice President for Asia for a three-year mandate, while Kazumi Ogasawara of Japan and Stefano Carvelli of Italy were elected as the delegates for Asia and Europe, respectively.
Amin will serve on the Interpol Executive Committee as a representative of Africa for three years alongside Issam Fetoui of Tunisia.
DCI Amin Wins Interpol Seat
The DCI boss’ candidature was formally presented to the INTERPOL membership by the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja.
Amin thanked President William Ruto for nominating and entrusting him with the responsibility to represent Kenya and Africa at the critical global security platform.

In his acceptance remarks, Amin also expressed gratitude to member states.
“I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility as Delegate for Africa to the INTERPOL Executive Committee. Your confidence in my candidacy reflects Kenya’s commitment to international policing and the importance of partnership across our regions,” he stated.
He further committed to ensuring the realization of an INTERPOL that is contextually aware and inclusive, while championing the protection of the most vulnerable.
“I will continue to advocate for the tools, capacities, and cooperation needed to dismantle criminal networks and defend the rights and lives of those who depend on us the most.”
Profile of DCI Boss Mohammed Amin
Mohammed Amin is the current Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office in Kenya. He has over 30 years of distinguished service and extensive experience in the National Police Service (NPS).
He took office in 2022, following George Kinoti’s resignation. Mohammed was sworn in after beating nine other candidates who were interviewed by the National Police Service (NPS) for the position.

He holds a Master of Arts in Criminology and Security Studies, a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in the same field from Egerton University, and a Diploma in International Studies from the University of Nairobi.
He is also an alumnus of the National Defence College of Kenya.
