Ruto and 9 CSs Announce Fresh Appointments Across Key Government Boards

President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have announced fresh appointments and reappointments across key government agencies and state corporations.

The changes, published in the Kenya Gazette on February 6, 2026, cover a wide range of institutions, including forestry research, wildlife conservation, sports and arts, tourism, and arbitration boards.

In a notice dated February 6, 2026, President Ruto appointed Walter Raria Koipaton as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI).

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act and section 16 (2) and Para 2 of the Fourth Schedule of the Science, Technology and Innovation Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint—LT. GEN. (RTD.) WALTER RARIA KOIPATON to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Forestry Research Institute, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 6th February, 2026,” read the notice.

President Ruto Makes New Appointments.

Ruto also appointed Advocate George Kithi as Chairperson of the Sports and Arts Fund Board for a three-year term.

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Regulation 8 (4) of the Sports and Arts Fund Regulations, I, William Samoei Ruto…appoint—GEORGE KITHI to be the Chairperson of the Sports and Arts Fund Board, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 6th February, 2026.”

Other appointments made by President Ruto include:

  • Maj. Gen. Alphazard Muthuri Kiugu – Chairperson, Anti-Doping Agency

  • Mahmud Jan Mohamed – Non-Executive Chairperson, Kenya Utalii College

  • Rina Chatrath – Non-Executive Chairperson, Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration Board

  • Patrick Mukundi Mbogo – Chairperson, Warehouse Receipt System Council

  • Joseph Lagat – Non-Executive Chairperson, Kenya Wildlife Service Board

All the appointments made are for three-year terms, effective 6th February 2026.

Cabinet Secretary Appointments

Several Cabinet Secretaries also appointed members and chairpersons of key boards, including:

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen appointed Ibrahim Mugetha Ndung’u as a Member of the Firearms Licensing Board.

“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 3 (2) (c) of the Firearms Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration appoints IBRAHIM MUGETHA NDUNG’U as a Member of the Firearm and Licensing Board for a term of three (3) years, with effect from the 6th February, 2026,” read the notice.

He also reappointed Yakub Rashid Abdullahi as Non-Executive Chairperson of the Firearms Licensing Board.

On his part, Treasury CS John Mbadi has reappointed Anne Rimbaine Lengerded and Joseph Kipkemboi Ngetich to the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation Board and James Agembe Akali to the Nairobi International Financial Centre Authority Board.

In addition, Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya appointed George Kingori Gathogo to the Advisory Board of the Financial Inclusion Fund for a three-year term.

In Education, CS Julius Ogamba appointed:

  • Kenneth O. Maena – Member of the Council of Tom Mboya University

  • Joseph Tuikong Rotich – Member of the Council of Koitaleel Samoei University College

  • Ronald Leposo Musengi – Member of the Council of Eldoret National Polytechnic

  • Jacob Wangai Gitau – Member of the Council of Eldoret National Polytechnic

  • Joseph Omanya Nyotumba – Member of the Council of Eldoret National Polytechnic

CS Ogamba further revoked the previous appointment of:

  • Joseph Tuikong Rotich as a Member of the Council of the Open University of Kenya

  • Allan Mugambi Michael as a Member of the Council of Murang’a University of Technology

Other appointments include:

  • Health CS Aden Duale appointed Dr. Patrisio Njiru Njeru to be a Member of the Kenya National Public Health Institute Board.

  • Tourism CS Rebecca Miano appointed Wuapari Cicilia Saayioi and Tabitha Murigi as members of the Kenya Utalii College Council. She also appointed Anne Nyawira Ngugi to the Wildlife Research and Training Institute Board as a member.

  • Salim Mvurya, CS, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, appointed George Kithi as a Member of the Sports and Arts Fund Board.

  • Hanna Wendot Cheptumo – CS, Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, appointed Charfano Guyo Mokku – Member, National Heroes Council.

  • Davis Chirchir – CS, Ministry of Roads and Transport, appointed Benson Mwaniki Njeru – Member, Board of Directors of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
