Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition has settled on appointing Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje as the new National Assembly deputy minority whip.
Mwenje will come in replacing Nominated MP Sabina Chege.
While speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, May 30, Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi announced that Azimio made the decision after they de-whipped Sabina Chege from the position on grounds that she has shown allegiance to Kenya Kwanza government.
Wandayi further said the decision is in continuance of a Jubilee party National Delegates Conference (NDC) where Sabina Chege was expelled from the party’s leadership.
“Azimio has today settled on Hon. Mark Mwenje as the Deputy Minority Whip of the National Assembly. He will be taking up the position which was left vacant upon the removal of Hon. Sabina Chege about a month ago,” he stated.

He lauded Mwenje saying he is a committed, consistent, energetic, and youthful fighter who has shown the will to stand up for the people and fight for the party.
Furthermore, Opiyo Wandayi noted that they want the decision to be enforced by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) Anne Nderitu to strengthen the party’s representation in the National Assembly.
Nonetheless, Sabina Chege’s removal as the National Assembly deputy minority whip is pending clearance from Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Wetangula had declined to okay her ejection, calling on Azimio to put their house in order first.
