Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has blamed people close to President William Ruto of meddling into the country’s politics as the push for his ouster through an impeachment motion continues.
DP Gachagua while speaking in an interview with local Rift Valley media stations on Monday night accused leaders from the Rift Valley region including an aide to President Ruto of playing division politics which has in turn caused the cracks being witnessed within the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.
The second in command alleged that woes within the government started when leaders from the Rift Valley region started planning for successive politics using some leaders from the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua went on to call out an aide to President Ruto, saying that he was involved in involving some Mt Kenya region in 2032 successive politics by promising them lucrative positions in the government.
“This problem started when your people from the Rift valley started going round preaching 2032 politics, you know that. They started taking our people round the country talking about 2032 politics. I told them let’s do the work first so that Kenyans can believe us and elect us for another term in 2027 so that you start talking about 2032. You saw they were going round with planes and money in sacks planning about 2032,” said the DP.
“People from the Rift Valley are the ones who came to poison our people, the President’s aide he is the one who started meddling into our region’s politics when he started planning about 2032.”
When asked who he was referring to, the DP avoided directly mentioning which Ruto aide he was referring to.

The DP further warned that when other parties come in between him and Ruto, the government shall be divided, while still maintaining that leaders from the Rift valley are to be blamed for the cracks.

“He takes people bundles them into planes and takes them round and he starts telling them you shall be the president, the deputy president, he is the one who has broken our government by mixing things up,” claimed Gachagua.
The DP added, “You know him, you know him there’s no one who does not know him. He is the one to blame. He used to take our people bundle them in planes take them for harambees and start promising them future positions.”
Son’s Businesses
At the same time, the DP denied allegations that his children bought the iconic TreeTops hotel in Aberdare National Park.
Gachagua clarified that his children, Kelvin and Keith, do not do business with the government and have instead taken out a loan to lease the hotel from Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).

“They have leased this hotel from KWS, not purchased it,” Gachagua stated. “People are spreading rumors without knowledge; this hotel belongs to KWS and has been leased.”
He emphasized that his family has employed 58 people at the hotel. Gachagua also suggested that there is a concerted effort to undermine him in light of his impending impeachment on Tuesday.
The second in command expressed his readiness to counter the claims, stating he awaits evidence to be presented and is prepared to defend against what he calls trumped-up charges, asserting that his record is clean.
Meanwhile, Gachagua suffered a setback on Monday when four attempts to halt his impeachment failed, with all constitutional divisions declining to intervene.
