BIOGRAPHY
Rigathi Gachagua was born in 1965 in Hiriga village, Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County. He is a Kenyan politician and the 12th deputy president of Kenya.
He has served in different capacities in government including in the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Heritage, Personal Assistant to the Head of the Public Service,
Additionnally, Rigathi Gachagua served from 2001 to 2006 as the Personal Assistant to Uhuru Kenyatta, who was by the time minister for Local Government
In 1990, he joined the administration police. He served as a District Officer Cadet between the years 1991 and 1992 after which he was posted to serve at the office of the then President Daniel Arap Moi.
Moreover, Gachagua served in Kakamega, Ng’arua, and Laikipia as the district officer. Between the years 2007 and 2017, he stayed away from the limelight running his businesses until he vied for the Mathira MP seat.
Education Life of Rigathi Gachagua
Gachagua studied at Kabiruini Primary School between 1971 and 1977 and later joined Kianyaga High School for his O-levels and A-levels.
Between the years 1985 and 1988, Rigathi Gachagua graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Literature at the University of Nairobi. Gachagua held the post of Nyeri District University Students Association (Ndusa) leader during his university days. Furthermore, he served as the chairman of the Association of Literature Students while at the University of Nairobi.
Between the years 1999 and 2000, Rigathi Gachagua went to the Kenya School of Government where he graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration.
Family Life
Rigathi Gachagua is married to Pastor Dorcas Wanjiku Gachagua. They are blessed with two children namely, Kevin and Keith.
Political Life
In 2017, Gachagua vied for the Mathira Constituency parliamentary seat and won. He later became running mate to the United Democratic Alliance presidential candidate, William Ruto, under the Kenya Kwanza political coalition.
He is currently the Deputy President of Kenya.
