Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has announced they will hold a grand welcome public baraza at the Kamukunji grounds on Friday, April 28 for Raila Odinga, who has been on a brief stay abroad.
The National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi in a press statement announced the grand procession that will welcome the opposition leader, including lawmakers Azimio supporters.
Moreover, the grand procession is expected to march from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and later converge in Kamkunji Grounds in Kibra.
“We appeal to our supporters of our quest for a just, fair and democratic nation that prioritizes its citizens, to turn up in large numbers and welcome Hon Odinga home and attend the Kibra rally,” reads part of the statement.
The lawmaker also called on those who will welcome Raila Odinga at the busy JKIA to maintain peace and order.
Moreover, the grand welcome baraza on Friday is taunted to build the momentum for the anti-government protest by Azimio Coalition set for May 2nd.

“The Hon Odinga will address the nation at the said meeting. The Kibra People’s Baraza will also set the stage for the peaceful mass action that is set to resume in Nairobi on 2nd May 2023 as earlier announced,” Wandayi stated.
Moreover, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition on Wednesday notified the Officer Commanding Nairobi Central Police Station of their May 2, 2023, planned protests.
Azimio Chairman of the Executive Council Wycliffe Oparanya noted in the notification that the coalition intends to submit a written petition to Harambee House, Nairobi.
“We, therefore, request your office to deploy enough police officers to guarantee security to attendees and exercise crowd control,” Oparanya said.
Oparanya further revealed that Azimio peaceful procession would take place in the streets of Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue, and Harambee Avenue.
“To avoid any confusion, I want to clarify that I am not submitting an application for permission as Article 37 of the Constitution does not contemplate it,” Oparanya added.
