Former President Uhuru Kenyatta made an appearance at the Jubilee party headquarters on Wednesday, April 26, following the squabble in the party leadership.
The retired president is seen in a video encircled by his supporters alongside Jeremiah Kioni near the party’s headquarters. Moreover, anti-riot police officers who were restoring order at the scene opened the gate for him.
“So, I received a phone call from Kioni and was told of what had transpired. I came to stand with him and our followers. I have no other duty than to protect our people’s rights. Let’s live in peace. We are peaceful people and wish to live in a peaceful country in co-existence with all the people of our party,” Uhuru Kenyatta stated after accessing the Party’s premises.
The headquarters were cordoned due to the chaos that ensued after party officials allied to Kanini Kega and journalists were barred from entering the offices, leading to a commotion.
The chaos escalated after the supporters engaged police officers in running battles while attempting to breach the security barriers. Hence, forcing the anti-riot police officers to use teargas.
As such, the former head of state condemned individuals causing chaos within the Jubilee party.
“Anyone who wants to leave a party can do so and join another party. We have no quarrel with anyone. We want to guard our party and those who do not want, are free to leave.” Uhuru Kenyatta said.

“Let us maintain peace. Police officers have better things to do other than coming here to restore peace. We don’t have issues with anyone, our mandate is to maintain peace,” he added.
In addition, the retired president said mechanisms would be put in place to resolve the Jubilee party squabble.
“We want to inform them (police officers) to go back to their stations and not to be used by people who want to cause chaos. We have a mechanism as a political party with which to solve our problems and we shall solve them. We shall have our meetings. The membership will decide the future of the party.” Uhuru Kenyatta stated.
Furthermore, Uhuru Kenyatta directed Kioni to ensure those who were injured in the clash are rushed to nearby hospitals.
“The youth who got injured due to the scuffle, inform them to stay behind so that we can sort them and ensure they receive medical attention,” he directed.
