The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has changed the political discussions across the country.

He described Raila as a very smart politician and learnt of the consequences of supporting Ruto after his cold reception at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
“I have seen Raila learning from Gachagua lately, listening to the ground. He did this in Kisii when people walked out of him and told him ‘Ruto must go’,” he said.

Raila Avoiding Nairobi Tours
He said Raila deliberately decided not to join President Ruto in his tour of Nairobi County.
Nyutu said Ruto has no political support within the Capital and needs Raila’s support to sway the city votes.
“He has been learning from Gachagua. That is why Raila has not joined Ruto for his rallies in Nairobi. Remember, Ruto has no support in Nairobi, the person who has the major support in Nairobi is Raila,” Nyutu said.
Nyutu said the President cannot consolidate Nairobi votes without Raila who controls majority of the votes.

Learning from Kisii Heckling
He emphasized that Raila learned from the Kisii incident and chose a different approach.
The Senator said Raila could have highlighted the government’s failures and revealed that the president was the one who went looking for him.
“Raila listened to the ground after Kisii, and he decided to backtrack. That is why he is not joining Ruto and told him to do things right. Before that, he could not have said it was Ruto who looked for him,” Nyutu said.

Supporting Ruto in 2027
Additionally, Nyutu stated that Raila reassured the people that he remains with them and will continue fighting for their rights.
He stated that that Raila might change his mind about working with Ruto since he could even lose his legacy.
“Raila has made many handshakes but this one, he has made with the wrong number. He has realized this, and he will not support Ruto going forward because he has seen he could also lose even his credentials that are hard earned,” he said.
President Ruto embarked on a campaign tour in Nairobi, days after sealing a political marriage with Odinga.
