Safina Party Leader and Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has claimed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was above the law when he was sworn in as the People’s President in 2018.
According to Wanjigi, Raila Odinga was supposed to take over office after taking oath at Uhuru Park as the People’s chosen president.
He further explained that when the masses elevate someone as the people’s president, he/she is above the constitution of the land.
“When the people elevate somebody to the people’s president, he is above the constitution of the land. We said that the Constitution and the laws are not being followed so the people have taken it in their ow hands and elevated Raila to the people’s president as enshrined in the Constitution,” said Wanjigi durimg an interview.
The political strategist further noted that the then National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition had a plan to ensure Raila take over the State House after the oath.
“Now the next journey from there is to get into office, so we had structured a direction to make sure that he takes over State House because he was the peoples president,” he added.
Wanjigi emphasized that their plans were not against the Constitution since the people had settled on Raila to lead the nation.
“It was not illegal because the power is donated to representatives, when the people take it back and we took it back, we stated who our president is,” he explained.
Differences With Raila
Nonetheless, Jimi Wanjigi went ahead to reveal that his differences with Raila started when he went for a handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2018.
“When you talk about the divisions, we may have had in 2022 because you are calling a foe, he was not a foe, he just chose a partner called Uhuru of which I could not reconcile with in terms of how is that the future of Kenya,” he said.
