Months after the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, his party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), is on the verge of collapse ahead of the 2027 elections. The party is grappling with supremacy wars as its leader, Oburu Oginga, who succeeded Odinga, struggles to save the giant formation from sinking. Already, different factions have emerged, with President William Ruto having declared his intention to work with the Orange party. Are these wrangles and divisions new? Political analyst Odoyo Owidi speaks on the deep divisions within ODM, revealing that the party was already fractured long before the death of Raila Odinga in October 2025.
In this exclusive interview with Nixon Njau of The Kenya Times, Owidi explains how the ODM faction led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna was allegedly influenced to align with the opposition immediately after ODM joined UDA to form a Broad-Based Government.
He further predicts that ODM is heading toward a complete split, warning that its political influence may soon be limited mainly to the Nyanza region.
