A double hat-trick in football is the term used when a player scores six goals in a single match.
It borrows from the word hat-trick which is how scoring three goals is described.
Other related terms include a brace which refers to two goals, whereas four goals can be described as a haul.
A glat refers to five goals while a haul trick refers to seven goals in a single match.
Despite being a rare occurrence, double hat tricks do occur and football players who have achieved this milestone become legends of their beautiful game.

Pele’s Double Hat-Trick
The former striker considered by FIFA as the best player of the 20th century and for some of all time appears in this list.
He joins this group for his performance in the game played in April 1964.
Playing for Santos against Botafogo, Pele was just a goal short of a triple hat trick, scoring 8 in an 11-0 victory.
Ted Drake
Ted Drake is one of the few players who made it to the list of footballers who have scored a double hat-trick during his time at Arsenal.
Arsenal won 7-1 in a first division match against Aston Villa on December 14, 1935 with Drake scoring all the goals.
George Best
The Northern Irish soccer player spent most of his career playing for Manchester United.
He scored six goals in United’s 8-2 victory against Northampton during a FA tie in 1970.
Best scored three goals with his right foot, one with his left and two headers as the lower-league side were swept aside.
Mascarenhas
Domingos Antonio da Silva, known as Mascarenhas, is another player who managed a double hat trick scorer.
Mascarenha scored 6 against APOEL to help Sporting FC win 16-1 on November 13, 1963.
The Angolan footballer made 26 appearances for sporting scoring 12 goals during this time.

Eldar Hadzimehmedovic
Eldar Hadzimehmedovic is one of the few examples of soccer players of the 21st century scoring a double hat trick.
Playing in the Lyn jersey, Hadzimehmedovic scored 6 to beat NSI Runavik in a 6-0 UEFA Cup game played back in 2003.
Luis Suarez
Suarez scored an astonishing double hat-trick in a game against WHC Wezep in the KNVB Cup Competition.
He was playing for Ajax at the time, leading the team to a 14-1 victory in the Dutch Cup.
Geoff Hurst
After scoring a hat-trick in the 1966 World Cup final, Hurst hit the headlines again two years later when he netted six times for West Ham as they thrashed Sunderland in a First Division encounter.
It remains the last time a player scored a double hat-trick in an English top-flight match.
Ted MacDougall
MacDougall bagged a treble hat-trick of nine goals as Bournemouth swept aside non-league Margate in the FA Cup first round.

Has Anyone Ever Scored 6 Goals in a Premier League Game?
No player has ever scored six goals in a Premier League (PL) game since its formation in 1992.
However, five players have scored five goals in a match as the double hat-trick still remains a record to be hit by any striker in the PL.
Andre Cole was the first player to score five goals for Manchester United against Ipswich in a 9-0 win in 1995.
Alan Shearer then scored five for Newcastle against Sheffield Wednesday in a 1999 8-0 victory.
Jermain Defoe followed suit for Spurs as they thrashed Wigan 9-1 in 2009, and Dimitar Berbatov did likewise for Manchester United as they defeated Blackburn 7-1 the following year.
Finally, Sergio Aguero found the net five times for Manchester City as they beat Newcastle 6-1 in 2015.
