Football is more than just a sport as it is a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and generations uniting people, instilling a sense of community and shared passion. Yet, amid the thrill of goals and the roar of the crowd, there exists a set of rules designed to ensure fair play and sportsmanship within the beautiful game —most notably, the disciplinary actions enforced through the yellow and red card.

The concept of the card system in football was introduced in the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, where the need for a clearer method of penalizing players became apparent.

Referees began using yellow cards as a warning and red cards to dismiss players for severe infractions.

A player shown a red card is immediately sent off the field and is suspended for at least one match, depending on the severity of the offense.

In addition, a player can receive a red card either through a direct dismissal for serious fouls or by accumulating two yellow cards in one match, leading to the danger-color card.

The disciplinary measures of football serve not just to uphold the integrity of the game but also to cultivate respect among players and between teams.
