Kevin Wangaya’s journey to becoming an established name in Kenyan football started at Laiser Hill Academy, which is among the top institutions in Kenya when it comes to the production of talented athletes.

While pursuing his studies and football career, Wangaya emerged as one of the most skilled midfielders of his age group within the context of school football.

Some of the qualities displayed by Wangaya during his tenure with Laiser Hill included composure with the ball, tactical awareness, vision, and match-control abilities from the midfield. Additionally, Wangaya participated in the program for the youth national teams of Kenya, where he got the chance to compete against some of the most talented youngsters of the country.

The experience gained in school football alongside that in the program of Kenya’s youth national teams paved the way for his progress into senior football.

Early Life and High School Football

Kevin Wangaya nurtured his football talents in Nairobi by playing in some of Kenya’s best-developed structures at the youth level.

The footballer went to Laiser Hill Academy, a prestigious institution known for nurturing excellent football talents, where he emerged as one of the most talented young midfielders in the nation.

While still in high school, Wangaya participated in both high school games and matches for Kenya’s youth teams.

He played alongside many of the best young Kenyan footballers, which was crucial in developing the intelligent style of play evident today.

The footballer began his youth career at Lig Ndogo Academy, one of Kenya’s top football institutions.

From there, Kevin earned admission to the FKF Center of Excellence.

Career at Senior Clubs

Kariobangi Sharks (2022-2024)

One of the key moves of Wangaya’s football career was joining the Kenyan team Kariobangi Sharks.

While playing there, he gained experience in the topflight while still representing his country at youth level.

FK Apolonia Fier, Albania (2024)

In 2024, Wangaya moved to the Albanian club FK Apolonia Fier.

This move enabled him to gain experience playing in Europe and improve his tactical understanding.

Nairobi United (2026-Present)

Kevin joined the Nairobi United in 2026 and became an influential player.

He scored on debut for the club and started to be seen as an influential player in midfield.

Wangaya’s performance was one of the reasons Nairobi United had such a good season in the league, thanks to his goals, assists, and match control.

Breakthrough Year: 2025

2025 proved to be Wangaya’s breakthrough year on the continental scene.

This year, he represented Kenya at the U-20 AFCON in Egypt.

He proved himself to be one of the best midfielders at this tournament thanks to his command of the game, ball retention, and midfield leadership.

He made an impact upon signing for Nairobi United, scoring in his debut game for the team. This shows how good he is offensively and as a midfielder.

Goals and Key Performances

Goal Scored Against Nigeria in U-20 AFCON

One of Wangaya’s highlights while playing football was his goal at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, when he scored against the Nigerian national team.

It demonstrates how he can perform under pressure and how he has become renowned across Africa as a footballer.

Player of the Month Award (April 2026)

During April 2026, Wangaya played very well, contributing to three goals and creating three assists over the course of five games for Nairobi United, which resulted in him receiving the SportPesa Premier League Player of the Month title.

Career Highlights

He was Included in the 2025 U-20 AFCON Group Stage Best XI.

Kevin scored a goal against Nigeria at the 2025 U-20 AFCON.

He scored his first goal for Nairobi United.

He was the SportPesa Premier League Player of the Month for April 2026.

Kevin also cemented his position in both the Kenya U20 and Nairobi United sides.
