The Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa has expressed optimism on the return of the local leagues after the swearing in of the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya Dr William Ruto.
Through his twitter handle, Mwendwa asked National teams, referees, and other football stakeholders to begin preparing for the new season which he hinted would be starting in a month’s time.
Moreover, Mwendwa who is viewed a close ally of the President William Ruto recently signaled his return to the top of FKF leadership in a letter to world football managing body Fifa indicating his powers as president had been restored.
Mwendwa had transferred those powers to the FKF vice-president Doris Petra in November last year after he was charged with corruption.
In addition, Mwendwa was accused of taking from FKF about 38 million shillings which he pleaded not guilty and was released on bail.
However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) withdrew the charges against him in July due to lack of evidence. He was then re-arrested and fresh charges preferred against him.
“Following the withdrawal of charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on July 8, 2022. I hereby wish to inform you good office that I have resumed my duties as the FKF president with immediate effect,” Mwendwa wrote in the letter addressed to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Similarly, probe into the FKF’s finances were triggered by the Cabinet Secretary of Sports, who proceeded to disband the federation and formed a caretaker committee to run the affairs of Kenyan football.

As a result, FKF officials were locked out of their Kandanda House offices as the committee took over control with Mwendwa stepping aside and handing over his powers to Amina at the end of November.
The decision to kick out the officials led to a confrontation with FIFA, who demanded that CS Amina retract her decision to dissolve FKF and allow its officials back in the office. As a result, Kenya was banned in February this year after Amina refused to oblige.
