Google has announced a new initiative offering free one-year access to its advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for university students across six African countries.
In an announcement made on Wednesday, October 8, Google said the offer is available to students aged 18 and above in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
Under the offer, students will gain access to Google’s latest artificial intelligence tools designed to enhance learning, research, and creative innovation.
According to Google, the initiative builds on its ongoing investment in Africa’s digital ecosystem through flagship programs such as the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa and the Digital Skills for Africa initiative, both of which have supported millions of individuals and small businesses in developing digital capabilities.

Alex Okosi, Managing Director for Google in Sub-Saharan Africa, stated that the company is witnessing a new wave of innovation across the continent, driven by the energy and ingenuity of young people.
At the same time, Okosi noted that the introduction of Gemini 2.5 Pro, included in the AI Pro plan, aims to equip young Africans with essential AI literacy skills, preparing them for an increasingly technology-driven job market.
“By providing students with access to our most advanced AI tools, we want to empower them to not only excel in their studies but also to become critical builders and shapers of the future,” he said
“This offer is about democratizing access to technology and giving African students the skills to compete and lead on a global stage.”

Google’s Free AI Tools to Revolutionize Learning for University Students
The Google AI Pro plan includes features that support academic and creative productivity.
Students will benefit from Guided Learning, which assists with in-depth research, summarizing academic papers, debugging code, and offering step-by-step guidance on complex problems.
The tools also promise to save time through Deep Research, a feature that generates comprehensive, cited reports from hundreds of web sources within minutes—reshaping how students approach long-form assignments and dissertations.
To enhance organization and creativity, students can use NotebookLM to structure notes and link ideas, while Veo 3 allows them to turn text prompts or images into short, high-quality videos for presentations and projects.

Additionally, the package offers 2 TB of cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos, giving students ample space to store coursework, research data, and creative portfolios.
Students interested in the offer are required to verify their university status and activate their 12-month subscription by visiting gemini.google/students.
The redemption period will run from October 7 to December 9, 2025, a total of 60 days.
