Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko now says he will support UDA candidate Hassan Omar for the Mombasa gubernatorial race.
Sonko says he would rather support Omar rather than ODM candidate Abdulswamad Nasir.
He further wants IEBC to clear his running mate Ali Mbogo to contest on a Wiper party ticket.
His threats came after the High Court in Mombasa rejected his petition seeking to compel IEBC to have his name on the ballot.
“It’s not about Sonko. Clear Ali Mbogo and let him be on the ballot, failure to which we shall support Hassan Omar. Take this to the bank,” he said.
“I am not in UDA, but maybe they will force us to that decision. Don’t punish everybody because of my mistakes,” Sonko noted.
The three-judge bench dismissed the argument by Sonko that he has an active appeal at the East Africa Court of Justice.
Two weeks ago, Supreme Court upheld decision by the Hight court and Court of Appeal that he was legally impeached.
Sonko has since filed a petition at the Supreme Court asking the judges to set aside their own decision
At the same time, the former governor has filed an appeal at the East African Court of Justice.
He argues that the decision of the Supreme Court was arrived at in an unjust manner.
