Kenya Met Lists Areas to Receive Heavy Rainfall by End of First Week of April

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has shared a detailed weather forecast for the period between April 4 and April 7, 2026.

In its latest forecast, Kenya Met published the outlook, stating that Rainfall is expected to persist in several parts of the country, with amounts likely to increase toward the end of the forecast period.

“Rainfall is expected to continue in a few parts of the country. However, rainfall amounts are likely to increase towards the end of the forecast period,” read part of its forecast.

In the region covering Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, mornings are expected to receive rain in a few places with sunny intervals in between.

Afternoons will experience showers and thunderstorms over scattered areas, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy with occasional showers.

Maximum temperatures in the region range from 27°C to 30°C, while minimum temperatures range from 10°C to 11°C.

KMD Weather Forecasts for Other Counties

At the same time, in the North-Western region, mornings are expected to have a chance of rain in a few areas, with sunny intervals in between.

Afternoons will generally feature sunny intervals, though showers may occur over scattered places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy, with occasional showers in some areas.

Maximum temperatures in the region range from 36°C to 37°C, while minimum temperatures range from 9°C to 12°C.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi Counties, mornings are expected to be cloudy, gradually breaking into sunny intervals, with occasional rain in a few places.

Afternoons will see showers and thunderstorms over scattered highland areas, while nights will be partly cloudy with some showers in certain locations.

For the North-Eastern region, covering Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo Counties, mornings are expected to experience rain over a few to several places.

KMD noted that the afternoons will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, while nights are likely to be partly cloudy with occasional showers in some areas.

Maximum temperatures across the region range from 36°C to 37°C.

South-eastern lowlands and Coastal Regions

South-Eastern Lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, will experience mostly cloudy mornings, breaking into sunny intervals, with occasional rain in a few places.

Afternoons will see scattered showers, while nights are expected to have isolated showers in some areas.

Maximum temperatures are around 31°C, with minimum temperatures ranging from 14°C to 16°C.

The Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale Counties, and the Tana Delta, will have sunny intervals in the mornings, with a chance of showers in a few places.

Afternoons are generally sunny, while nights remain partly cloudy across the region.

Maximum temperatures are between 32°C and 33°C, while minimum temperatures range from 23°C to 25°C.
