Kenya Met Lists Regions to Receive Rainfall During the First Week of June

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a weather forecast for the period between May 30 and June 3, 2026

In the forecast published on Friday, May 29, Kenya Met predicted that rainfall would persist over several parts of the country.

According to the weatherman, rainfall is likely in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands and North-eastern Kenya.

“Rainfall is expected in a few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coast, the South-eastern Lowlands and North-eastern Kenya,” read part of the forecast.

KMD Lists Regions to Experience Heavy Rainfall

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, morning rains are expected over a few places from Saturday to Monday, followed by sunny intervals on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout the forecast period, while nighttime showers are expected in some areas before conditions become partly cloudy by midweek.

Daytime temperatures will range from 28°C to 32°C, while night temperatures will fall to 9°C to 12°C.

The counties affected include: Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

Nairobi And Other Counties

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its neighbouring counties, are expected to experience occasional morning rains and afternoon showers over a few places throughout the period.

Nighttime showers may also occur in some areas. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 26°C to 28°C, while minimum temperatures could drop to 5°C.

Other counties in this region include Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Nairobi, and parts of Eastern Laikipia.

Northwestern

North-western Kenya is expected to remain predominantly sunny and dry.

Turkana and Samburu counties will experience sunny intervals during the day and partly cloudy conditions at night.

Temperatures in the region will remain high, reaching up to 37°C during the day.

Northeastern Kenya

In North-eastern Kenya, rainfall is forecast over a few places, particularly on Saturday and during the early part of next week.

According to KMD, afternoon showers are expected in some areas, while sunny intervals will prevail in the next 5 days.

Maximum temperatures will range from 36°C to 38°C, with minimum temperatures from 16°C to 17°C.

Counties in this region are Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo.

South-eastern Lowlands

The South-eastern Lowlands will experience mainly sunny mornings throughout the forecast period.

The counties include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado, as well as most of Tana River County.

However, a few places may receive afternoon and nighttime showers from Sunday through Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to range from 31°C to 33°C during the day and from 12°C to 15°C at night.

Coastal strip

At the Coast, KMD stated that showers are expected over several places from Saturday to Monday before reducing in intensity towards the middle of the week.

Rainfall is likely during the morning, afternoon and nighttime hours, particularly in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu counties.

Maximum temperatures will range between 32°C and 33°C, while minimum temperatures will remain between 23°C and 24°C.

This region consists of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale and the Coastal parts of Tana River County.
