President Donald Trump has found himself increasingly isolated after Israel, which enjoys US support, carried out an airstrike in Qatar on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
While Trump appeared to condemn the attack, he simultaneously defended it as necessary to eliminate Hamas.
“Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is bravely working with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel’s or America’s goals.
However, eliminating Hamas, which has profited from the misery of those living in Gaza, is a worthy goal,” Trump stated in a press release dated September 9 through the White House.
Trump Isolated as European Leaders Condemn Israel’s Action
Several world leaders quickly condemned Israel’s actions, warning against escalation in the Middle East.
French President Emmanuel Macron described the strikes as unacceptable.
“Today’s Israeli strikes on Qatar are unacceptable, whatever the reason. I express my solidarity with Qatar and its Emir, Sheikh Tamim Al Thani. Under no circumstances should the war spread throughout the region,” Macron said.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed similar sentiments, urging restraint.
“I condemn Israel’s strikes on Doha, which violate Qatar’s sovereignty and risk further escalation across the region. The priority must be an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and a huge surge in aid into Gaza. This is the only solution towards long-lasting peace,” Starmer stated.
Despite his condemnation, Trump stressed that Hamas must be eliminated, while expressing sympathy for Qatar as a United States ally.
“I view Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the U.S., and I feel very bad about the location of the attack. I want all of the hostages and the bodies of the dead released, and this war to end, now!” Trump declared.
Netanyahu Unapologetic About His Actions
The Israeli strike in Doha’s West Bay Lagoon district targeted senior Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya, a key negotiator.
Hamas reported that six people were killed, including al-Hayya’s son, three bodyguards, an aide, and a Qatari security officer.
Several others were injured. Hamas condemned the strike as a “heinous crime” aimed at derailing ceasefire talks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the operation, making it clear it was carried out independently.
“Today’s action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation. Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility,” Netanyahu stated.
