U.S President Donald Trump’s administration has directed the arrest of citizens caught filming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents while on duty.
This follows an executive order issued by the Trump administration labeling Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. The group has at times been linked to documenting police conduct or clashes at protests.
President Trump argued that the action is necessary to safeguard national security and protect federal officers.
He described Antifa as a “militarist, anarchist enterprise” accused of orchestrating riots, armed standoffs with law enforcement, assaults on ICE officers, and campaigns of online intimidation.
“Antifa is a militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States Government, law enforcement authorities, and our system of law. It uses illegal means to organize and execute a campaign of violence and terrorism nationwide to accomplish these goals,” the US President stated.
Trump Calls for Arrest of Citizens Caught Filming ICE Agents
Trump further claimed that Antifa has been obstructing law enforcement officers, including ICE agents, from performing their duties. He said the executive order would help curb such activities.
“This campaign involves coordinated efforts to obstruct enforcement of federal laws through armed standoffs with law enforcement, organized riots, violent assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement officers, and routine doxing of and other threats against political figures and activists,” said Trump.

The executive order also directs federal departments to pursue investigatory and prosecutorial measures against those who provide material support to Antifa, including through surveillance of federal officers.
Following the announcement, several leaders challenged the move, arguing that it is unconstitutional, while others endorsed it.
Leaders React to the US President’s Executive Order
Executive Director of the New York Health Campaign, Melanie D’Arrigo, criticized the order as an attack on civil liberties.
“Trump’s EO designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist org is worded so that anyone protesting ICE agents, filming or asking them for ID, or informing people of their rights, can be charged as a domestic terrorist. This isn’t an attack on Antifa. It’s an attack on our rights,” she said.
U.S. intelligence veteran Malcolm Nance echoed this concern on X, stating: “You cannot designate an idea as a terrorist group. There is no organization called Antifa. There is no leadership or funding path. There is no membership. Also, there is no law in America to charge with terrorism. What he is doing is setting the stage to designate ANY American as a terrorist. That’s fascism.”

On the other hand, several of Trump’s allies endorsed the move to label Antifa as a terrorist group.
House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris argued the designation would “protect communities” and enable law enforcement to “investigate those who fund them and stop the lawlessness once and for all.”
Maryland Representative Andy Harris voiced his support for Trump’s action.
“President Trump is right. Antifa is a dangerous, radical group that thrives on chaos and violence. Rightfully declaring them a terrorist organization will help protect our communities. It’s time to investigate those who fund them and stop the lawlessness once and for all,” said Harris.
