Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders to intervene after Russia unleashed a massive overnight assault, firing more than 50 missiles and around 500 drones across several Ukrainian regions.
In a statement posted on Sunday, October, Zelensky said the attacks targeted key infrastructure in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad, killing five people and injuring at least ten others.
“Today, the Russians once again targeted our infrastructure – everything that ensures normal life for our people,” he said. “We need more protection and faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially on air defense, to deprive this aerial terror of any meaning.”
“The Russians struck with cruise missiles, Shaheds, and Kinzhals, among other things. As of now, it is known that about ten people were injured in the attack. Sadly, five were killed. My sincere condolences to everyone who lost loved ones to this terror.”
Zelensky Urges US and Europe to Act After Russia Launches Massive Missile on Ukraine
Calling for urgent international action, Zelensky urged the United States and Europe to help stop Russia’s continued bombardment, saying a “unilateral ceasefire in the skies” could pave the way for real diplomacy.
“We need more protection and faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially on air defense, to deprive this aerial terror of any meaning,” he said.
“A unilateral ceasefire in the skies is possible – and it is precisely that which could open the way to real diplomacy. America and Europe must act to make Putin stop.”
Zelenskyy described the strikes as another act of “aerial terror.”

He stated that rescue and recovery operations were ongoing and that he was receiving updates from senior government officials, including Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Oleksii Kuleba, as well as from the heads of regional military administrations and Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretskyi.
“I expect the government officials to act swiftly and effectively to eliminate the consequences of this attack in the affected regions,” Zelensky added.

Russia Strikes on Ukraine
Russia rained missiles and drones on Ukraine in a massive overnight attack.
Four deaths were reported in the western region of Lviv, which borders Poland, where an industrial park in the regional capital was set ablaze and parts of the city were left without power.
In southeastern Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, one person was killed and nine others were wounded in a combined assault that also left more than 73,000 customers without electricity, according to Governor Ivan Fedorov.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said civilian infrastructure was also damaged in the regions of Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Odesa.
“Another deliberate act of terror against civilians,” Svyrydenko wrote on X. “Moscow continues to strike homes, schools, and energy facilities — proving that destruction remains its only strategy.”
Earlier, on Saturday October 3 Volodymy Zelensky reported that least 30 people had been injured following a Russian drone strike on a railway station in north-east Ukraine.
In a post on X, he said that preliminary reports indicated train staff and passengers were at the site of the strike in the city of Shostka, in the Sumy region.
