A train collided with a school bus belonging to Teresia’s School on Friday, May 15, 2026, along the Gilgil–Nyahururu road, resulting in an accident.
The Bus was attempting to cross a railway line in the Gilgil area when it was hit by the train.
Police officers and emergency teams responded swiftly to help evacuate the learners and assist the injured pupils.
Authorities have confirmed that no deaths had been reported by the time of publication, but several learners sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident to establish the circumstances under which the bus attempted to cross the railway line before the collision.
Teresia School Bus Dragged After Collision With Train in Gilgil
Photos seen by The Kenya Times show the front section of the train pressed against the side of the yellow school bus, as emergency responders and members of the public gather around the scene.
After the collision at the railway crossing, the School bus was trapped beside the train.
Additionally, there is visible damage on the side of the bus, including a large dent and shattered windows.

Scores Injured After Bus Full of Students Returning From Trip Overturns
The incident adds to the growing number of accidents in Kenya involving school buses.
On September 26, 2025, several students were injured when a bus carrying learners and teachers from St. Augustine Mumbuni Day Secondary School in Mwala Sub-County, who were returning from a school trip, was involved in a road accident.
The accident occurred near Mutwamwaki Ridge along the Kivandini–Masinga Road in Machakos County.
According to initial reports, the bus was ferrying 48 Physics students and 3 teachers back from an academic excursion to the Masinga Hydro-Power Generation Dam when the accident occurred near the Musingini area.
The images showed shattered windows, including the front windscreen, and debris scattered across the crash site. Other photos captured first responders attending to the injured and coordinating rescue efforts amid the wreckage.
