Tahmeed Coach has issued a statement following a fatal road accident involving one of its buses in the Kapiti area of Konza shortly after midnight.

In a press statement dated July 7th 2026, the bus company expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, saying it was working with relevant authorities as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.

“It is with profound sorrow that we confirm one of our buses, KDL 079S, was involved in a fatal road traffic accident in the Kapiti area of Konza shortly after midnight today,” read part of the statement.

The bus company confirmed that those who died included its driver and the driver of a truck involved in the collision. Several passengers sustained injuries in the accident, with some receiving medical attention before being discharged.

Tahmeed Gives Details on How Crash Happened

According to the statement, preliminary information indicates that the accident involved multiple vehicles before the collision with the Tahmeed bus.

The company said a truck overtaking was struck from behind by a second truck, causing the first truck to collide with the bus.

However, the bus company stated that it would not make further comments on the cause of the accident until the authorities’ investigations are completed.

“Preliminary information suggests an overtaking pulling truck was struck from behind by a second truck, causing it to collide with our bus. We will refrain from further comment on the cause until authorities conclude their inquiries. The safety and well-being of our passengers and staff remain our highest priority. We are cooperating fully with the investigating agencies and are in contact with the affected families to offer appropriate support,” the company said.

The accident occurred along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway near Kapiti, in the Konza area.

Injured Passengers Receive Treatment as Rescue Operations Continue

In its statement, Tahmeed Coach said several passengers aboard the bus sustained minor injuries following the accident and were taken for medical attention.

The company stated that some of the injured passengers were treated and discharged, after which a rescue bus was sent to enable them to continue with their journey.

Five passengers who remained under medical observation were discharged the morning and proceeded with their trip aboard the company’s 8:00 AM Nairobi to Mombasa service.

“Several passengers sustained minor injuries and received immediate medical attention. They were treated and discharged, after which a rescue bus was dispatched to continue their journey. Five passengers remained under medical observation and, following discharge this morning, continued their journey aboard our 8:00 a.m. service from Nairobi to Mombasa,” read part of the statement.

Tahmeed said it was in contact with affected families and was offering support following the loss of lives.

The bus operator said it was cooperating fully with investigating agencies as they work to establish the exact cause of the accident.
