Three people have narrowly escaped death after a train engine collided with a lorry transporting bread at the Limuru Railway Crossing near Bata Shoe Company on July 6.
According to the eyewitnesses, the lorry driver claimed that the train operator did not sound the horn to warn motorists as the train approached the crossing, which led to the collision.
Further, the bread-transportation lorry driver alleged that the foggy weather also contributed to the collision.
On the other hand, some of the witnesses and bystanders have argued that the accident was preventable if the lorry driver had exercised greater caution while approaching the railway line.
Authorities on Collision Accident
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collision or responded to the driver’s claims.
However, the delivery lorry in the video, as observed by the Kenya Times, has sustained damage, and the authorities and responders have cleared the scene and restored normal traffic at the Limuru Railway Crossing.
Following the collision, the area experienced temporary disruption as crowds gathered around the scene, with some seeking information about the accident and casualties.
In contrast, some of the members of the public present at the accident scene are observed to have been collecting loaves of bread from the lorry.
Investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and determine whether safety procedures at the railway crossing were followed.

Public Call For Safety Measures at Limuru Railway and Other Crossing Areas
The public has called for the enhancement of safety measures at railway crossings to avoid accidents such as the one that occurred on July 6, including the proper functioning of traffic signs.
“At any train crossing junction, there should be traffic signs, and you are advised to stop first whenever you approach the place where there is or is no train before crossing; not hooting alone is a sign of alert, “Benard Kulecho emphasized.
While some called for the implementation of safety measures, some called out the ignorance of drivers, stating that despite the unavailability of signs, drivers are to approach crossing areas with caution.
According to Wuod Ochol, the Limuru railway accident puts the lorry driver at fault, as he argues that despite the train operator not hooting, the driver should have been cautious of the sound of the train’s engine and the surrounding area before proceeding to cross.
Most Kenyans seem to support the argument, with some even calling the lorry driver ignorant.
