Several people have sustained injuries when a speeding vehicle attached to President William Ruto’s motorcade collided with a lorry at Mutunduri in Embu County along the Embu–Meru Highway.

The accident occurred as the presidential convoy was traveling through the area, triggering panic among motorists and residents.

According to the witnesses, the escort vehicle was moving at high speed before the collision. Emergency responders and members of the public rushed to the scene to assist the injured, who were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment.

The incident took place on July 7, with the bystanders explaining that the overspeeding vehicle from the president’s motorcade hit the personal vehicle.

Following the road tragedy and the extent of the damage from the accident, some of the bystanders argued that the people in the personal car might not survive the accident.

The crash caused traffic disruption along the busy highway as authorities moved to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident.

With the towing vehicle that responded to clear the highway and ease the traffic jam caused by the accident, the witnesses were heard in a video, as observed by the Kenya Times, calling for the quick clearance of the road to allow the president to travel with ease on the highway.

“Hurry up; the president is passing through this route. Fasten your pace, Mr. Engineer,” the bystanders called for swiftness in the road clearance .

President William Ruto’s speeding motorcade had a head-on collision with a private car at Mutunduri as the president was traveling to attend a Sunday service at the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya in Gatunduri

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured and restore normal traffic flow, with the officers present expected to provide more details regarding the accident.

Public Reaction to Ruto’s Mortarcade Accident in Embu

Members of the public have raised concerns about the recent high number of recorded accidents in the country.

However, others have argued that the accident is politically tied to the president, with some Kenyans, including Nyakio Kinyua, citing a similar accident in 2025 during a presidential visit to Embu County.

Despite some in the public alleging that the accident has a deeper meaning due to the upcoming general elections, Edward Murimi has argued that accidents happen without any connection to President Ruto.

“How many accidents have been happening lately even without his visits? Let’s refrain from politicizing everything,” Edward Murimi advised Kenyans.

Further, he emphasized that members of the public should stop politicizing the fact that Ruto’s motorcade collided in Embu.
