Motorists using the Southern Bypass experienced major delays on June 30, following a road accident involving several trucks near the Dagoretti climb lane in the Thogoto area.
According to preliminary reports, one of the trailers is suspected of having suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The out-of-control truck rammed into another transit truck, causing one of the vehicles to overturn and partially block the highway.
The accident caused a heavy traffic snarl-up as motorists were forced to slow down while emergency responders and traffic officers worked to clear the scene.

KeNHA’s Earlier Closure of Southern Bypass
Earlier, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued a traffic advisory announcing the temporary closure of the Ole Sereni-bound section of the Nairobi Southern Bypass between the Thogoto and Dagoretti interchanges near Karinde following the road traffic accident.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify motorists that the Nairobi Southern Bypass (Ole Sereni bound), between Thogoto and Dagoretti Interchanges near Karinde, has been temporarily closed following a road traffic accident earlier this morning,” stated KeNHA.
KeNHA warned that significant traffic delays were expected along the affected section and advised motorists to plan their journeys accordingly. Those who had not yet commenced their trips were urged to use the Kikuyu–Mutuini–Dagoretti (C63) Road as an alternative route to avoid the congestion.
The authority urged motorists to follow instructions from traffic officers at the scene as clearance efforts continued, adding that KeNHA teams were working to restore normal traffic flow and ensure safety on the road.
