Healthcare facilities in Murang’a County licensed and approved by the Social Health Authority (SHA) offer different medical services depending on the level of the facility under the SHA framework.
According to the health authority, accreditation of health care facilities ensures Kenyans access health services without financial strain.
“The Social Health Authority ensures that every resident in Kenya can access a comprehensive range of quality health services they need without the burden of financial hardship,” SHA stated.
Level 4, Level 3, and Level 2 facilities in Murang’a provide inpatient and outpatient healthcare services, including maternity care, diagnostics, surgery, treatment of chronic illnesses, and emergency medical services through both public and private SHA-approved facilities.
Under the SHA framework, Murang’a County Referral Hospital, Muriranjas Sub-County Hospital, and Maragua Sub-County Hospital are approved Level 4 government-operated facilities.
Further, Kiria Health Center and Kangema Sub-County Hospital are SHA-approved Level 3B public health facilities that offer expanded healthcare services, including maternal and child health, outpatient care, and basic inpatient treatment.
Public Level 2 facilities accredited by SHA include Gatiani, Mukurwe, Kiranga, Kamahuha, Muruka, Githunguri, Mariira, Murarandia, Kanjama, Kiria-ini, Kiarathe, Muthithi, Gakurwe, Ichichi, Kahuhia Girls, Mbugiti, Karimamwaro, Makomboki, Gikoe Health Center, Ihiga, Kagaa-Kiharu, Kiamuturi, and Kibutha.
Murang’a SHA-Approved Level 4 Private Hospitals
SHA-approved Level 4 facilities provide advanced inpatient and outpatient services under the SHA health insurance program.
The accredited private facilities include Kenol Hospital Ltd, Family Heritage Hospital, Modern Aberdare View Hospital Limited, and Forthall Memorial Hospital Limited.
SHA-Approved Dispensaries and Clinics
In Murang’a County, Level 2 Dispensaries and Clinics include Gatiani, Mukurwe, Kiranga, and Kamahuha.
Other clinics and dispensaries include Muruka, Githunguri, Mariira, Murarandia, Kanjama, Kiria-ini, Kiarathe, Muthithi, and Gakurwe.
Additional Level 2 public facilities approved by SHA include Ichichi, Kahuhia Girls, Mbugiti, Karimamwaro, Makomboki, Gikoe Health Center, Ihiga, Kagaa-Kiharu, Kiamuturi, and Kibutha.
