Bolt has partnered with Nairobi City County and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to strengthen road safety, improve compliance with transport regulations and promote responsible ride-hailing operations in the capital.
In a statement on October 22, Bolt said the partnership was reinforced during a joint driver safety and compliance engagement which brought together ride-hailing drivers, county transport officials, NTSA, and emergency response provider RESCUE.CO.
The session focused on road safety practices, county transport regulations and the use of technology to improve passenger and driver safety. It also gave drivers an opportunity to raise concerns about challenges affecting their daily operations.
Benjamin Sulle, Bolt Kenya’s Public Policy Manager, said cooperation between private companies and government agencies was necessary to improve road safety and strengthen regulation in the ride-hailing sector.
“Safer roads and a well-regulated ride-hailing sector require more than technology alone. They require continued collaboration between platforms, drivers and the authorities responsible for managing our transport systems,” Sulle said.
He added that such engagements help stakeholders understand existing requirements and identify practical ways to improve safety and regulatory compliance.

NTSA Warns Drivers Against Dangerous Road Practices
During the session, NTSA officials took drivers through key road safety requirements, warning against dangerous practices such as speeding, distracted driving, unsafe lane-splitting and driving while fatigued.
Participating drivers also pledged to observe traffic regulations and adopt safer driving practices.
Nairobi City County’s Mobility Department provided guidance on county transport by-laws, traffic management and parking regulations to help drivers understand the rules governing their operations within the city.
The engagement also addressed the role of technology and emergency response services in handling incidents on the road.
RESCUE.CO demonstrated how drivers should use emergency assistance services, including when to activate them and how emergency situations are managed.

Bolt Trains Drivers on In-App Safety Features
Bolt trained drivers on its in-app safety features, including Emergency Assist, Trip Sharing, Trusted Contacts, Unsafe Area Alerts and Trip Anomaly Detection.
The session also emphasised the importance of accurate incident reporting to help Bolt’s Safety team respond to cases and conduct timely follow-ups.
The engagement comes as Nairobi continues to grapple with road safety and traffic management challenges, making cooperation between transport authorities, ride-hailing platforms and drivers an important part of efforts to promote safer journeys.
Bolt said it would continue working with relevant stakeholders on driver education, regulatory awareness and measures to support responsible ride-hailing operations.
The company said the initiative forms part of the company’s efforts to promote safer urban mobility through technology, driver training and cooperation with public authorities.
