Olympic Games and Diamond League champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi showed his class with a dominant victory in the men’s 800m at the Wanda Diamond League series meeting in Monaco.
Wanyonyi clocked the tenth fastest time ever with 1:41.44 to set a new meeting record in Monaco.
USA’s Josh Hoey finished second with a time of 1:41.01, while Olympic bronze medalist Djamel Sedjati finished third in 1:42.20.
Australia’s Peter Bol finished fourth while Olympic champion Marco Arop of Canada came in at fifth in 1:42.73.
In 2025, the Wanda Diamond League will pay out a record total of $9.24 million (Ksh1.2 billion) US dollars in prize money.
The total prize money awarded per meeting will be $500,000 at each of the 14 regular series meetings, and $2.24 million at the Wanda Diamond League Final.
The total prize money per discipline will be between $30,000 and $50,000 at the series meetings and between $60,000 and $100,000 at the Final.
The Prizes have been divided into Diamond Disciplines and Diamond+ Disciplines, which have higher pay.
There are four Diamond+ Disciplines in the series meetings and eight at the Final, in which athletes can earn higher prize money.
Emmanuel Wanyonyi Series Amount
Based on this structure, Wanyonyi will pocket $10,000 (Ksh1.2 million) after his win in Monaco.
Hoey will earn $6,000 (Ksh774,000) while Sedjati, who finished third, will pocket $4000 (Ksh516,000).
Wanyonyi will win the same amount if he wins the next series meeting in London, Silesia and Brussels.
The series meetings are scheduled for July 19th, August 16th and August 22nd, respectively.
More Money in Lausanne Series Meeting
However, the 800m is listed as one of the Diamond+ Disciplines in the Lausanne meeting, which will be held on August 20th.
Here, the winner will pocket $20,000 (Ksh2.5 million) while the silver medalist will earn $10,000.

Zurich Finals Prizes
The finals of the Wanda Diamond League will be held in Zurich on August 27, 2025.
Men’s 800m is listed as a Diamond Discipline in the finals, and the winner will earn $30,000 (Ksh3.8 million).
The silver and bronze winners will earn $12,000 (Ksh1.5 million) and $7,000 (Ksh903,000) respectively.

Athletes who finish fourth in the final will receive $4,000, while those in fifth place will earn $2,500 (Ksh322,500).
Sixth-place finishers will take home $2,000 (Ksh258,000), followed by seventh place at $1,500 (Ksh193,500).
Those who finish eighth will receive $1,000 (Ksh129,000), and those in ninth place or lower will be awarded $500 (Ksh64,500).
