Social media influencer Scophine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, has broken her silence for the first time ever since she was found at the Kenya-Tanzania border aftet going missing.
Aoko’s discovery at the border was confirmed by her aide on Friday, November 1, after the influencer had suspiciously been missing for close to ten days. Her last tweet was posted on October 22, before she went incognito.
While confirming that Aoko had been found, her aide revealed in a statement that the family received a call from a hospital where she had been taken by an unidentified person.
“She’s been found at the Kenya-Tanzania border. Her family was called by a hospital. She was taken there by an unidentified person who said they found her outside their gate,” the aide posted on Aoko’s X account.
“Don’t know much at the moment, but her father is on his way there. Will keep you updated. Thank you for standing with her.”
However, no photos or videos of Aoko were shared at the time, and she remained silent for a week.
Aoko finally broke her silence in a statement on Friday, November 8.
Aoko speaks
Through her X account, the influencer reassured Kenyans that she is well and stated that the person who had been posting on her account had her full permission, as well as her family’s, to do so.
According to Maverick, the mistrust by Kenyans is justified and the skepticism around her aide operating the account is valid, given the circumstances surrounding her.
She further maintained that her account has not been compromised and that they regularly change passwords.
“Your clamor, fervor, noise, agitation and prayers kept air in my lungs and blood in my heart. Asante for every tweet, retweet, call, concern, message and voice that spoke out for me. Grateful that I am getting adequate care. The spirit remains sound, the resolve is bolstered, rather than punctured, for no amount of spittle can quench a furnace,” she said.

“What happened? I will tell you, oh I will expose every minute detail, every crumb. But we will converse more dear friends when I get better,” she added.
Aoko’s whereabouts questioned
The resurfacing of the social media influencer comes after Kenyans, including leaders, raised concerns over her whereabouts.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on October 30 took issue with Maverick’s disappearance calling for action.

Sifuna said that the responsibility lies with the police to protect Kenyans and their properties.
“Let us not sit here thinking that we are immune to this thing. Anybody can be plucked from the streets, blogger Maverick Aoko has not been found up to now, what sort of country is this,” Sifuna said during a session in Senate.
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino, a close confidant to Aoko, also added his voice calling for her release.
“Aoko has been missing for days…I have reached out to her family members and close friends, but no one knows where she is,” Babu said.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo had also called for Aoko’s immediate release while urging Kenyans to use the society’s hotline to provide any information regarding the influencer’s disappearance.
