The Matanya Catholic Church has rejected the Ksh80,000 donation from Member of Parliament for Laikipia East Mwangi Kiunjuri.
“I was to give Ksh40,000 but I want to double the amount,” he said.

The Catholic church priest and the congregation publicly rejected the donation.
This comes after the Catholic church strongly discouraged the use of church events such as fundraisers and gatherings as platforms for political self-promotion.

Catholic Church Rejected Ruto’s Millions
The Archdiocese of Nairobi rejected millions that were donated by President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Sakaja.

Soweto Catholic Church on November 17, 2024, reverent Philp Anyolo announced to the church, that they would return the Ksh2.6 million and the additional Ksh3 million pledged.
“These funds will be refunded to the respective donors. Furthermore, the promised additional Ksh3 million for the construction of the Fathers’ house, as well as the donation of a parish bus by the President, are hereby declined.” he said.

In addition, they returned Ksh200,000 donated by the Governor Sakaja to the parish choir and Parish Missionary Council (PMC).
The church was called upon to uphold integrity by rejecting contributions that may compromise its independence or unjust enrichment.
“Politicians are urged to refrain from turning the pulpit into a stage for political rhetoric, as such actions undermine the sanctity of worship spaces,” Anyolo said.

Catholic Bishops Call Out Government
The Kenya Conference of Bishops (KCCB) issued a public statement addressing critical national issues that require urgent attention from the government.
Further, they urged the political leaders should demonstrate ethical leadership to issues raised by Kenyans.
That includes political wrangles, corruption, politics of self-interest, violations of human rights, and freedom of speech.
Moreover, issues surrounding SHIF and NHIF, over-taxation, and unfulfilled wrangles are among key areas the KCCB called out the Government.
