China Wu Yi Co., Ltd., a Chinese construction firm in Nairobi, has announced the sale of 103 units of retired and scrapped machinery and equipment in Kenya as part of its equipment replacement and upgrading programme.
“A total of 103 units of machinery and equipment are offered for sale, comprising 45 units of scrapped equipment, together with certain scrap materials, to be sold as scrap metal, and 58 units of retired equipment to be sold as complete units,” China Wu Yi of Kenya stated in a public notice dated October 22.
How to bid for the equipment and scrap metal
Under the terms of the notice, the 45 scrapped units and additional scrap materials will be sold together as a single lot for scrap metal purposes.
Bidders must quote a price per kilogram, and the final payment will be calculated using the actual weight recorded at a weighbridge designated by the seller.
In addition, the company has clarified that the buyers will also bear the costs of weighing and loading.
In contrast, the 58 retired equipment units will be offered as complete units, and bidders must submit separate quotations for each item.
During bidding, the applicant must clearly indicate the equipment name and identification number alongside the price.
“Each bid must clearly indicate the name and identification number of the equipment being offered for purchase, the quoted unit price and the bidder’s contact details,” China Wu Yi Kenya advised bidders.

The company may also consider combined offers covering multiple units or the entire lot, with the final award based on its overall evaluation.
According to the company, all equipment will be sold on an “as is” basis, meaning buyers must assess its condition before making an offer.
However, the company has emphasized that it makes no express or implied warranties regarding the equipment’s condition, performance or suitability for use.
Where individual bids conflict with a combined offer, the final award will be determined through the seller’s overall evaluation.
Payment And Collection Terms
China Wu Yi Kenya has directed that it will notify successful bidders within 10 working days after the submission deadline.
Bidders will then have five working days from receiving the award notification to execute the sale contract and 10 working days after signing to pay the full purchase price by bank transfer.
In addition, the company has notified all bidders that buyers will be responsible for loading, transportation, and collection costs, and that handover dates will be agreed separately.
Failure to sign the contract, make full payment or collect the equipment within the prescribed timelines will be treated as withdrawal from the purchase.
