Bank of Baroda (Kenya) Limited has denied reports that it is closing its operations in the country, terming the claims false and misleading.

In a statement on September 18, the bank said it continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains committed to serving its customers and supporting businesses and households.

The lender urged customers, employees, business partners and members of the public to disregard unverified reports regarding its operations.

“Bank of Baroda (Kenya) Limited wishes to clarify that reports circulating regarding the alleged closure of the Bank’s operations in Kenya are false and misleading. Customers, employees, business partners and members of the public are advised not to rely on such unverified information,” read part of the statement.

According to the bank, its latest regulatory disclosures show a strong capital position, loan book growth and a stable balance sheet.

The bank also reported strong year-on-year profitability, saying the performance reflected its financial position and continued operations in Kenya.

Further, the bank stated that it has operated in Kenya for more than 70 years, serving generations of customers since it was established in the country in 1953.

The bank said it remains focused on risk management, regulatory compliance, governance and sustainable business growth.

It further advised customers and other stakeholders to rely on official communications from the bank and relevant regulatory authorities for verified information.

The clarification comes amid a court case that could see Bank of Baroda (Kenya) Limited’s movable assets attached and sold to recover nearly Ksh.3 billion owed to Infinity Industrial Park Limited.

Court Orders Behind Shutdown Claims

On September 15, 2026, the High Court issued a warrant allowing Moran Auctioneers to attach the bank’s movable property as part of efforts to recover Ksh2.9 billion.

The case is before the High Court Commercial Division in Nairobi under Commercial Case No. E322 of 2024. Infinity Industrial Park Limited is the plaintiff, while Bank of Baroda (Kenya) Limited is the judgment debtor.

The recovery process follows a decree issued on September 8, 2025, ordering the bank to pay the amount owed to Infinity Industrial Park. On September 1, 2026, the court issued a further order enforcing the decree.

Moran Auctioneers has been directed to attach enough of the bank’s movable assets to cover the outstanding amount and the costs of the attachment.

If the debt is not settled, the attached assets may be sold at a public auction. The auctioneer must give the bank 15 days’ notice before the sale and follow the required legal procedures.

Moran Auctioneers has also been ordered to report to the court by October 15, 2026, stating whether the warrant was executed, when and how it was carried out, or explaining why it could not be executed.
