Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has appointed a committee to spearhead efforts to build a broad opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election after the Jubilee Party’s National Executive Committee endorsed a plan to deepen engagement with like-minded political parties and alliances.
The National Executive Committee adopted the decision in a resolution at a meeting on October 27, chaired by Matiang’i in his capacity as the party leader and presidential candidate.
According to the notice signed by Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta, the committee will lead talks with opposition parties and coalitions as Jubilee seeks greater cooperation within the opposition ranks before the next polls.
The committee comprises Kembi Gitura as chairperson, Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era.
Opposition Unity Drive
Jubilee said it established the team in recognition of the party’s membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance and the need to strengthen unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
Among its key responsibilities, the committee will review and, where necessary, propose amendments to the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance, as Jubilee considers deeper collaboration with other opposition formations.

The committee has also been tasked with engaging other like-minded political parties within the opposition to explore opportunities for cooperation and coalition-building.
In addition, the team will develop proposals to strengthen opposition unity and collaboration as political parties begin preparing for the 2027 General Election.
The party said the committee would present its recommendations to the National Executive Committee for consideration and further direction.
“Jubilee recognizes that building consensus and strengthening unity among opposition parties are essential in preparing for the 2027 General Election.” the announcement stated.
The resolutions mark one of the clearest indications yet that Jubilee is moving to formalise its role in ongoing efforts to bring together opposition parties under a common political framework ahead of the 2027 contest.
The party maintained that cooperation among opposition parties would be key to advancing shared political objectives and strengthening collective engagement on national issues.
Besides the coalition-building initiative, the National Executive Committee approved interim appointments to fill vacant party positions.
Interim Jubilee Party Appointments
The committee appointed Lucy Naisiae Kashu as Interim Chairperson of the Party Women’s Caucus and Madina Yunis Mahat as Interim Deputy National Organising Secretary.
The appointments will be in an acting capacity pending the party’s established structures filling the positions.
The meeting also passed a resolution extending goodwill messages to candidates sitting national examinations across the country.
Jubilee wished success to learners undertaking the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations and other national assessments.
The party issued the resolutions on October 28, signed by Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta, who said the decisions reflected the party’s priorities as it positions itself for the next phase of political engagement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
What Comes Next for the Opposition
The committee’s formation comes as opposition parties intensify efforts to forge a united front ahead of the 2027 General Election.
While leaders have publicly pledged to back a single presidential candidate, different camps have already emerged around Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka and Edwin Sifuna.
There are also ongoing consultations involving key opposition figures, including recent meetings bringing together Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa as leaders seek consensus on the shape of a united opposition and the eventual selection of a presidential flagbearer.
