A traffic accident involving four vehicles occurred along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway on Saturday, January 6.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the accident happened at around 5:00 a.m.
Further, the police confirmed that one person died in the accident while 32 people were injured.
“On January 6, 2024, at about 0500hrs at Mustard area along Nakuru-Eldoret highway, a fatal road traffic accident involving 3 Isuzu motor vehicles and a Mercedes Benz trailer claimed one life and left several other passengers injured,” read the statement.
Those injured were rushed to the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital for treatment.
According to the statement, officers stationed at Kaptembwa Police Station in Nakuru commenced investigation into the cause of the accident.
Also, the NPS appealed to all motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads to prevent road crashes.
Nakuru-Eldoret Highway Crush
The Saturday morning crash added to the series of accidents reported on Kenyan roads since the onset of the festive season.
Five people died after a road accident involving multiple vehicles at Timboroa area along the same highway on January 4.
Police said the incident involved a passenger bus and three other vehicles including a probox.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident involved a Mistubish bus and 3 other vehicles including a Toyota Probox,” the statement read in part.

According to NPS, three people were killed on the spot while several passengers were rushed to the Eldama Ravine Sub- County Hospital for treatment.
Two more unknown passengers, however, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the accident while receiving treatment.
“Several passengers have been rushed to Eldama Ravine Sub- County Hospital for treatment, but two more unknown passengers have succumbed, “read the statement in parts.
Two weeks earlier, a bus with a passenger capacity of 60 collided with a 14-seater matatu killing four people on the spot around Timboroa area.
NTSA Accident Statistics
The National Transport and Safety Authority has been undertaking measures to ensure motorists adhere to road safety guidelines.
On December 18, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen said the number of fatalities cause by road accidents reduced this year.
Besides, Murkomen lauded the progress saying the ministry’s collective effort contributed to the reduction of road fatalities this year.

“From January 1 to December 7, 2023, we witnessed a commendable 8.11 per cent decrease in lives lost due to road traffic injuries compared with the same period last year,” he said.
However, the CS mentioned that the reduction in deaths coincided with an increase in the number of seriously injured individuals.
“It takes care and responsibility on the part of all road users to address challenges presented on our roads. Do not allow a reckless driver to take away the lives of innocent road users,” stated Murkomen.
