A family in Mihango District is seeking justice for their 40-year-old relative who was involved in a near-fatal accident in one of the ongoing affordable housing projects.
The kin named Benjamin Mwangi Ndive was, according to the family, working at a construction site for an affordable housing project in Ruiru, Kiambu County, when a stone fell on him.
Speaking to the media on December 31, 2023, the family noted that Benjamin sustained serious injuries on his body including his head and was rushed to a hospital in Nairobi.
“I saw my brother being removed from the ambulance and truthfully, he was in a very bad shape,” Joseph Ndive, the victim’s brother stated.
Notably, the accident occurred on October 21, 2023, morning.

Benjamin’s Journey After Accident at Affordable Housing Site
Subsequently, Benjamin underwent a head surgery which was successful and was discharged from hospital on November 13, 2023.
However, his father Simon Ndive noted that he was still being detained at the hospital over an accrued hospital bill of over Ksh1 million.
“When I first saw him, he was put on oxygen and he was not able to move,” he recalled.
The family stated that the construction company that was supposed to clear the medial bill only disbursed Ksh340,000 leaving the family with the heavy financial burden.

“He committed himself and told us not to worry because he would clear the whole bill. He also gave an assurance to the hospital and told them (management) that he would clear everything.
“Ksh340,000 was paid to the hospital on October 22. The amount was paid through M-pesa,” added Benjamin’s father.
Family Attempts To Reach Construction Company
At the same time, they indicated that they had been trying to reach the construction company albeit with no success.
In their revelations, the family members said that they had reported the matter to the police and obtained a letter from the Ruiru area chief on December 18, but the management had not yet responded to their plea.
“Our family also recently had another sick individual and we spent over Ksh100,000 for medication and treatment. We are not able to raise the remaining amount.
“We have also had challenges raising money from friends because of the difficult financial times,” added Simon Ndive.
