The State Department for Housing has cancelled tenders for the construction of various Economic Stimulus Programs (ESP) Markets that were advertised earlier.
The government on September 1 and 9 this year advertised the now cancelled ESP tenders through The Standard Newspaper.
Notably, this cancellation of market construction tenders has affected several counties such as Kiambu which had eight markets on the line including Kimunyu, Soko Mjinga, Gatukuyu, Ting’ang’a, Ngewa Kwa Maiko, Gikuni, Ngoliba and Thogoto.
In Murang’a the proposed construction of Kabati, Maragwa, Kayole-Jua Kali, Kiria-ini, Mukuyu and Gatunyu Markets were also cancelled.
Other tenders that were cancelled include the Mavoko, Kithimani, Masii, Kangundo and Emali ESP Markets in Machakos and Makueni counties among other regions.
Cancellation of Tenders
In addition, the Procuring Entity noted that it reserves the right to terminate the Procurement Process at any time before the tenders are awarded.

Notably, the government holds the right to cancel a tender before it is awarded.Â
“The Procuring Entity reserves the right to terminate the Procurement Process at any time before the tenders are awarded,” noted the ministry.
Likewise, the ministry noted that a tender may be cancelled due to a change in circumstance, such as no longer having a need for the goods or services stated in the tender invitation or unavailability of funds to meet the cost of the expenditure.
Re-Advertisement of the Tenders
However, in a notice on November 8, the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development re-advertised the tenders with a deadline of Wednesday, November 22.Â

Some of the re-advertised market construction tenders are 5 markets in Kiambu including Gatukuyu, Soko Mjinga, Ngewa(Kwa Maiko), Kiandutu and Gitwe markets
Similarly, in Migori County 6 markets were re-advertised including Sibuoche, Kwaa, Ntimaru, Nyabahose, Riosir and Ranen Markets
Also, 3 markets in Narok County including Ntulele, Suswa and Emurua Dikirr were re-advertised, among others.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development cancelled two groups of tenders which were clustered into two categories: First Cluster 1-25, and Second Cluster 26-48.
Nonetheless, the ministry urged interested and qualified bidders to take on the construction of associated infrastructure on select sites.
