TikTok has introduced new features to personalise content, including Manage Topics and Smart Keyword Filters, enhancing user control over their For You feed.
These new features aim to improve the user’s control over the content they see, helping them to discover fresh creators, explore their interests, as well as personalise their TikTok experience.
These tools will include a Manage Topics feature, smart keyword filtering and a 101 guide to how the For You feed works.
Manage TikTok Topics
The Manage Topics feature allows users to tailor their For You feed by adjusting the frequency of content related to over 10 popular topics.
Examples include Creative Arts, Travel, Nature, Sports, and others, catering to a wide range of interests.

Users can access this through the app’s settings under Content Preferences > Manage Topics, where a slider interface enables them to choose to see more or less of each topic.
Importantly, this feature does not eliminate topics entirely but influences their recommendation frequency based on evolving user interests.

Smart Keyword Filtering
Smart Keyword Filters represent an advancement in content personalisation, leveraging AI to limit content based on specific keywords and their synonyms.
This tool builds on existing keyword filters, currently managing over 200 million filtered words globally, and will soon allow users to select or deselect specific keywords, with the keyword limit increasing from 100 to 200.
Bulk addition of keywords is also planned, expected to make the filters more precise over time as more users engage with them to offer fine-grained control.
For You Feed Guide
To complement these tools, TikTok has launched a new educational guide to help users understand and shape their For You feed.

This guide covers how the feed works, safety measures, and personalisation tips, including videos explaining content recommendations, which have garnered over 180 million views.
It also collaborates with creators like @cathypedrayes for additional tips and plans to release a fresh set of explanatory videos.
The new updates are eligible for both teen and adult accounts, building on tools and safeguards that help people have a great For You feed experience.
