Gachagua Answers Ruto After Calling Him Incompetent, Tribal & Corrupt

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at President William Ruto after the Head of State accused him of being incompetent, tribal, and corrupt.

Ruto had hit out at  Gachagua, accusing him of attempting to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines, adding that his efforts will not bear fruit.

The President while speaking in Luanda, Vihiga County, on Wednesday, January 22, pointed out that some of his major political adversaries had served under him in the past but were removed from office due to incompetence, a veiled reference that appeared to be directed at Gachagua.

In response to the remarks by Ruto, Gachagua on Thursday in a live Tiktok interview lamented being the subject of political speeches made during Ruto’s development tour in the Western region.

He further asked his former boss to deal with the problems of the people in Western Kenya.

“You can hear everybody now is just abusing me in Western Kenya. The President and his team went there for a development tour and Rigathi Gachagua has become the center of that tour. Instead of discussing roads, they are discussing Rigathi Gachagua, instead of discussing water and sugarcane farming they are discussing Rigathi Gachagua,” he said.

“I would like to ask the President and those people in Western Kenya please deal with the people in Western Kenya. There is road infrastructure that needs to be completed, there are no drugs sugar problems need to be sorted out Rigathi Gachagua is not the solution of problems in western Kenya.”

At the same time, the former Deputy President issued a stern warning to residents of Western Kenya, urging them to be cautious and learn from the experience of the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua reflected on how President Ruto had previously courted the region’s support during his five-year tenure.

“The President was here for five years he would spend seven days here and that is how he convinced us to vote for him. Be very careful you can learn from us. You are just being lured the way he lured us. Now he doesn’t come here the way he used to because we know him,” he added.

Since leaving office, Gachagua has been a thorn in Ruto’s side, persistently criticizing the Kenya Kwanza government.

He has also launched a charm offensive in the Mt. Kenya region ahead of the 2027 polls, in an effort to seemingly undermine the head of state’s influence and consolidating his own political base ahead of the next elections.

Ruto and Mudavadi launch attack

His remarks come after Ruto accused him of attempting to divide Kenyans along ethnic lines while speaking in Vihiga on Wednesday.

“There are others who were given jobs to do but because of incompetence, because they understand nothing, because they love stealing and because they are corrupt. They are against unity and are trying to divide people,” he said.

Further, President Ruto emphasized that Kenya is a nation built on unity and shared values and that those who seek to exploit ethnic divisions for personal gain will ultimately fail.

Ruto’s remarks come just two days after Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi fired shots at Gachagua for his incessant trolls against the government.

Speaking at a roadside rally in Kakamega County on Monday, Mudavadi urged the former DP to tone down his fury against the state and instead focus on furthering his professional interests.
