Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has written a letter to the Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja, claiming that there are attempts to assassinate him.
In the letter dated April 15, 2025, Gachagua raised concerns regarding his security, that of his family, supporters, and property.

He stated that the IG has a constitutional responsibility and duty to protect the life and property of every Kenyan, as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Assassination Plans Against Rigathi
He stated that on December 28, 2025, in Shamata, Nyandarua County, an inspector of police flanked by organized criminal gangs threw teargas canister at him to scatter his supporters and create a fertile avenue to attack him with an assassination intent.
Further, he claimed that National Intelligence Service (NIS) operatives have been trailing him and stalking him, and his immediate family members in unmarked cars or and clandestine number plates.
Another incident that reinforced his belief that his life is in danger occurred on March 29, 2025, in Naivasha town.
He claimed that a contingent of heavily armed police officers, under the command of Mr. Keter, the OCPD of Naivasha, violently assaulted and harassed unarmed and innocent residents who had organically gathered to greet him.
The same officers reportedly trailed his motorcade and continued to harass his staff all the way to Mai Mahiu Shopping Centre, where they allegedly blocked residents and hurled teargas canisters at innocent citizens attempting to interact with him.
