Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at supporting Raila Odinga for President in 2027.
In a statement on Sunday, February 16, Gachagua said Kenyans including himself have unfinished business with Raila.

He explained that African continent needed Raila’s services as the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, but Kenya needs him the most.
Gachagua said it is only Raila who can save Kenya from the challenges it is currently facing.

“Africa needed you most, but God, in His own wisdom, found that Kenya, your motherland, and indeed, we Kenyans, your beloved brothers and sisters, have unfinished business with you as their coveted son as we unshackle our country from recklessness,” Gachagua said.
According to Gachagua, Raila put on a brave fight, elicited energy, resilience in the race and remains the undefatigable Lion of Africa.

He stated that Raila did not lose as the majority had their way adding that the African and Kenyan spirit lives on.
“You came in a credible 2nd as you held the Kenyan Flag high in a hotly contested seat of the AUC Chairmanship,” Gachagua said.
“The leap you made motifs the Kenyan optimism and great hope in the continent and the World.”
Gachagua encouraged Raila to take heart, assuring him that he made Kenya proud.
He emphasized that the AUC election outcome does not diminish Raila’s leadership or his ability to fix Kenya.
“In any case, the outcome at the AU doesn’t, in any way, undermine your leadership and your energy to fix our Nation,” Gachagua said.
“Welcome back home, our son Raila Odinga, with your head held high; East or West, home is the best.”
Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf was elected as the new Chairperson of the AUC in the elections held on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Raila’s Statement After AUC Results
Speaking after the official announcement, Raila thanked the countries who voted for him and those which did not.
Raila stated that he was ready for any outcome and was ready to serve the continent in other roles.
“When you go to a contest, there are two outcomes, you can win and you can lose so this is one of them and I am not bitter I am very happy indeed and very available to offer services to the continent in another capacity,” Raila said.

Gachagua Message to Raila Before AUC Elections
Before the election, Gachagua sent a heartwarming message to Raila describing him as the best bet for the AUC chairmanship.
“Africa deserves the best. There is no doubt about Raila’s worldview and championship for African people,” Raila said.
He said Africa needs Raila’s character to gel the Anglophone and the Francophone selves towards the continent of the future.
“Raila’s win will be good and progressive for Africa. His victory will be a win for Kenya, our motherland,” he added.
