Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna is under fire following Raila Odinga’s defeat in the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship election on February 15, 2025.
After the results, Sifuna reaffirmed his support for Raila, assuring him that Kenyans still love and respect him.

“My Boss. My Mentor. My Friend. My Leader. You still have a home. Come back. We still love you. We are proud of you. Nothing has changed,” Sifuna stated.
However, some ODM leaders criticized him, accusing him of failing to back Raila’s bid.

Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma alleged that Sifuna was aligning himself with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. “You cannot love Baba and Gachagua at the same time,” he said.
Digital media strategist Lord Abraham Mutai called for Sifuna’s removal from ODM, citing a lack of commitment to Raila’s campaign.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai echoed similar sentiments, accusing Sifuna of shifting loyalty and asking him to stop commenting on Raila.
“Mr. Sifuna, sit down. You didn’t support Raila Odinga, and ODM should evict you. We know where your heart is. Stop with your loud mouth,” Alai said.
Raila Will not Be Used in 2027
In a follow-up statement, Alai dismissed the idea of Raila being used for ethnic politics in the 2027 elections.
Alai asserted that Raila will not be used to settle political and ethnic scores against President William Ruto.
“Anyone imagining that Baba Raila Odinga will be used as a tool to fight Ruto for ethnic revenge in 2027, be ready for disappointment. Raila is not coming back for that. Look for someone else,” he stated.

Calls on ODM to Eject Sifuna
CEO of Youth Champions for SDGs, Naipamei Kaikai, went further, claiming Sifuna was secretly pleased with Raila’s loss.
“Deep down, you are happy he is back to help you politically,” Kaikai alleged.
Digital political strategist Captain Kipkorir called Sifuna a hypocrite and urged ODM to remove him, arguing that he failed to support Raila during the campaign.
“Hypocrite. ODM should evict this man. He never showed up when Baba needed him the most,” he wrote.

Other social media users echoed these sentiments, suggesting that Sifuna anticipated Raila’s defeat.
“Sifuna, you knew this was going to happen because you showed zero support,” wrote Heberd.
Eddie, another user, added: “You and ODM betrayers—today we are happy. Now go back to running your mouth as usual.”
