The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued an update on the death of the Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were.
In a statement on April 2, 2025, DCI stated that the motive for the heinous act remains under investigation, but preliminary investigations suggested that this was a targeted and premeditated act.
Upon visiting the crime scene, the DCI team examined the crime scene and collected critical evidence essential to the investigation’s progress.
Further, DCI assured that its team has a detailed analysis that has yielded significant leads, enabling investigators to narrow down to potential suspects.

“The DCI is pursuing all angles to uncover the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the agency assured.
Further, the authorities have announced that an autopsy, led by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor is scheduled for Monday, May 5, 2025, which will provide crucial insights into the cause of death and aid in advancing the investigation.
In addition, they extended their heartfelt condolences to Hon. Were’s family, parliamentary colleagues, constituents, and friends during this difficult time.
DCI has urged the public to remain calm and refrain from speculation as investigative teams work diligently to ensure a thorough and transparent resolution to the case.

Details of CCTV Footage Before His Death
Earlier, fresh CCTV footage has provided additional details regarding the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP). The footage revealed the final movements of both the legislator and his assailant leading up to the fatal shooting in Nairobi.
Investigators probing the case have focused their attention on a suspect captured on multiple CCTV cameras, following the late MP Were’s vehicle in what detectives now believe was a meticulously planned assassination.
The vehicle was first spotted along City Hallway before turning onto Wabera Street, where it briefly stopped.

Before He was Shot Dead
CCTV footage later captured the bike following the MP’s car closely as it approached the Valley Road – Ngong Road roundabout at City Mortuary, where the vehicle came to a halt at a red traffic light around 7:40 p.m.
The gunman disembarked from the bike, walked up to the car, and fired four shots through the passenger window at close range, shooting the MP in the chest and hand.
