The management of Nakuru Boys High School has closed the institution for two weeks following violent protests.
According to reports the school was closed after a riot on the night on Sunday February 9th.

The students were sent home on Monday morning, February 10th, after a meeting was held to discuss the unrest at 8am.
The Police Commissioner confirmed that they have been sent home and there was massive destruction of property.

Several students were injured and properties destroyed in the school during demonstrations.
Reasons Why Nakuru Boys Protested
The students’ reasons for protesting include use of cards instead of cash during buying of items in the school canteen.

In addition, the students were against black tea instead of the normal milk tea.
The students also protested the removal of tea and bread during breakfast.
Besides, the students reportedly have issues with the new principal.
The unrest lasted for about three (3) hours and police officers arrived to restore order.
Police officers were able to restore order at around 2am.
They reportedly destroyed school bus, classrooms, administration block, and dormitories.

About Nakuru Boys High School
Nakuru Boys is in Nakuru county, along Nakuru-Bahati Road. It borders Nakuru State House to the east.
It is among top performing schools in Nakuru County, having scored a mean of 8.55 in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In 2016, a fire broke out in the school burning a section of the dormitory. During this incident, no student was injured or any reported casualties.
The police launched the investigations to determine the cause of fire.
Cardinal Otunga Fire
This comes after a fire broke out at Cardinal Otunga High School in Kisii County on January 9th, 2025.
The fire erupted shortly after the release of the 2024 KCSE results, with no injuries reported.
The Ministry of Education said that the investigations were ongoing.

Fire Burns Down Moi Girls Dormitory
Similarly, a fire incident occurred at Moi Girls High School, Nairobi County, on January 20, 2025.
The fire burnt down a multi-storey building at the institution although the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Kenya Red Cross said the County fire brigade contained the situation which affected one dormitory adding that there were no casualties.
