Several Police officers have been injured in a road accident while traveling to an event attended by President William Ruto. The officers were involved in the accident while on their way to the funeral of Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa Mkweha, the father of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, at Kamale Village in Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County.
Also attending the burial ceremony are Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and other elected leaders including senators and Members of Parliament.

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina while speaking revealed details of the accident while pleading for intervention to fix roads in the county during the burial ceremony.
Ole Kina stated that nearly 10 officers had been injured and urged President Ruto to ensure that the road leading to Kamale village in Magarini was tarmacked.

“I used that road where there is a head-on collision accident that has occurred, about 10 Police officers have been injured while others were affected by the dust,” said Ole Kina.
Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo also confirmed the accident, which he blamed on the poor condition of the road.

He attributed the accident to dust from the untarmacked road, saying that road users struggle to see clearly.
“When we were travelling to come to this funeral in the morning, an accident occurred a bad accident in which our colleagues who were supposed to be here with us were not able to make it as they are currently recuperating in hospital,” said Madzayo.
“An accident like this could not have occurred.”

The accident involved a collision between two vehicles.
Photos seen by The Kenya Times showed Kilifi County government ambulances at the scene.
Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, while speaking about the road where the accident occurred, said that four kilometers had been tarmacked last year.

He added that tarmacking is set to continue from around April this year, as the county government has allocated funds for the project.
However, Governor Mung’aro pleaded with President Ruto to assist in completing the road.
He further confirmed that all those involved in the crash had been rushed to the hospital.
“We were able to rescue all involved in the accident. After the crash, all the victims had been rescued within half an hour and rushed to Marafa Hospital for specialized medical care,” the governor said.
