A General Service Unit (GSU) officer attached to the State House in Nairobi has been confirmed dead following a spear attack.
Preliminary reports indicate that the GSU officer guarding Gate D of the State House, Nairobi, was killed on Monday, October 13, in a shocking spear attack.
According to police reports, the officer was on duty with colleagues when a man armed with a spear launched an unprovoked assault, fatally striking him in the left side of the chest.
The GSU officer attached to G Company was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) but was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities said he had suffered excessive bleeding by the time he reached the hospital.
The attacker, a 56-year-old Kenyan man, was arrested at the scene and is currently being questioned. Police said the suspect claimed during initial interrogation that he had been “sent by satan” to carry out the killing in the incident that occurred around 11 a.m., though the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Last moments of GSU officer speared to death outside State House Gate D
Witnesses reported that the assailant arrived at the area disguised as a street dweller, carrying a sack with a spear concealed inside. He allegedly hid behind a flower bed, then suddenly emerged and stabbed the officer in the chest.
At the time, the officer and two colleagues were inspecting a vehicle approaching the gate — a routine security procedure for anyone entering the State House compound.
The area where the attack took place is known to serve as a security screening point for both vehicles and pedestrians heading toward State House.
The incident triggered heightened security within the State House grounds, especially as President William Ruto was present at the time and preparing to depart for Konza City in Machakos County.
State House and state lodges are primarily secured by officers from the GSU’s G Company. This unit is also responsible for protecting the President’s residences and related facilities.
In addition to GSU personnel, the Presidential Escort Unit plays a key role in managing the President and his family’s movements. This unit is a fully equipped security team dedicated to providing round-the-clock protection.
When the President travels, local police officers often support these core units to ensure comprehensive security coverage. Combined, the President and his family are guarded by approximately 200 GSU officers.

As a standard security protocol, only designated security personnel are allowed to be armed—particularly at presidential events. Other officers, especially those carrying rifles, are typically restricted from these functions unless they belong to the approved protection detail.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine whether the attacker had any prior connection to the slain officer or broader motives behind the assault.
Questions about security protocols at one of the country’s most protected installations have also been raised as Gate D of the State House is known to be open to the public for controlled access.
The incident occurred just hours after a separate case in which another GSU officer was killed near Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). According to preliminary reports, the officer assigned to guard the JKIA perimeter fence was strangled and drowned following an altercation with a man. The suspect in the Sunday, October 12, 2025, incident was arrested shortly after the attack.
