Sankara Nairobi, a five-star hotel in Westlands, is a luxury hospitality property featuring premium accommodation, including presidential suites, as part of its high-end offering.

The current legal owner of Sankara Nairobi (Autograph Collection by Marriott) is Westlands Hotels Limited, which holds the Sh3.2 billion hotel asset. It is privately owned and operates under a small shareholder structure.

Westlands Hotels Limited is controlled by a private investment group, with billionaire businessman Baloobhai Patel identified as a key shareholder.

He is widely regarded as a significant figure behind the hotel’s ownership through his investment interests.

The late Charles Njonjo previously served as a major shareholder and chairman of the Sankara Hotel Group, which is linked to Westlands Hotels Limited.

Following his death, his stake is understood to have passed to his family and associated partners, though updated shareholding details have not been publicly disclosed.

Baloobhai Patel (full name Baloobhai Chotabhai Patel) is a Kenyan billionaire investor and entrepreneur, widely regarded as one of the country’s prominent private equity figures.

He has built an enviable investment portfolio across multiple sectors in Kenya.

Born in Nairobi around 1937, he is an Indian-origin Kenyan businessman who has developed a diversified investment portfolio over several decades.

His business interests span tourism, financial markets, and real estate-linked investments.

Patel is the owner and managing director of Transworld Safaris Limited, a major tourism-focused company in Kenya.

He is also among the largest individual shareholders on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), with stakes in firms such as Absa Bank Kenya, Co-operative Bank of Kenya, Carbacid Investments, Safaricom, Sanlam Kenya, CIC Insurance, and Bamburi Cement.

His listed investments have been valued at several billion shillings, contributing to his classification as a high-net-worth investor in Kenya.

He is also linked as a key shareholder in Westlands Hotels Limited, the company that owns Sankara Nairobi in Westlands.

Sankara Nairobi, Autograph Collection is a five-star luxury hotel located on Woodvale Grove in Westlands, Nairobi, near major commercial hubs such as Sarit Center, Westgate Mall, and Village Market.

According to the official Sankara Nairobi website and related hospitality listings, Sankara Nairobi, Autograph Collection provides a range of five-star facilities designed for business travelers, leisure guests, and events.

  • Graze Steakhouse offers a New York-inspired dining experience with a live kitchen, open-air terrace, chef’s table, and Josper-style grill.
  • Osteria Romana features Italian-style dining with breakfast, lunch, dinner, wine selections, and café-bar services.
  • Sarabi Rooftop operates as a rooftop restaurant and bar with Nairobi skyline views, live music performances, and locally sourced cuisine.
  • The hotel also serves buffet and à-la-carte breakfast options including continental, vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, Asian, and full English meals.

  • The hotel has a rooftop swimming pool overlooking Nairobi and Westlands.
  • Guests have access to a health club and gym equipped with fitness facilities, sauna, steam room, and personal wellness services.

The property targets premium business travelers, diplomats, and high-end local and international guests. Room rates typically fall in the upper luxury bracket, previously reported to range from Ksh 50,000 to Ksh 80,000 per night, depending on room type and season.
