Liberty Life Assurance Kenya Ltd has operated in Kenya since 1964, offering various insurance and financial solutions to individuals and businesses.

It is a subsidiary of Liberty Kenya Holdings PLC, which is listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).

Liberty Kenya Holdings PLC also serves as the parent company of The Heritage Insurance Company Kenya Ltd, which manages the group’s general (short-term) insurance operations in the country.

Liberty was founded in 1957 by Sir Donald Gordon, who was inspired by his father’s experience of working hard with limited financial returns.

His vision was to create a platform where individuals could build wealth and secure a future for their families. The name “Liberty” was chosen to reflect the ideals of freedom and opportunity.

In Kenya, Liberty Life has operated for over 50 years, contributing to the development of the financial services sector through insurance and related offerings.

Motor Insurance

Covers are available for the following categories of vehicles;

• Private Cars: These will include Saloons, Station wagons, Estates, and the large Four-Wheel Drives (4X4). The key aspect of these vehicles is that they must be used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes only.
• Commercial vehicles: These will range from small half-ton pick-ups to the large monster trucks on the roads. They will also include vans and company/school buses. The key aspect here is that the vehicles must only be used for the insured business and will exclude all usage for hire or reward, e.g. taxis, matatus and any general carriage of goods for reward. Carriage of passengers is usually excluded in this class but can be bought back at a modest fee.
• Motorcycles: Used for the insured business only
• Other vehicles: These will include agricultural type vehicles of tractors, combine harvesters, construction vehicles of graders and shovels, to emergency response vehicles of ambulances, fire tenders
